Charm Sciences, Inc. is pleased to announce that the Peel Plate® YM (Yeast and Mold) microbial test has received AOAC Research Institute approval 061601.
“This is another AOAC-RI approval of the Peel Plate test platform of microbial tests introduced last year,” stated Bob Salter, Vice President of Regulatory and Industrial Affairs. “The Peel Plate methods perform comparably to traditional microbial methods in 14 different food types with 11 different yeast and mold strains which led to their rapid performance verifications by AOAC-RI. We look forward to showing the product and reference method comparison data to attendees of International Food Technologists and International Association of Food Protection this summer.”
Peel Plate tests are simplified culture methods developed for microbiologists and food quality stakeholders. Using traditional standard yeast and mold formulation with grey/blue producing phosphatase enzyme substrate, YM tests produce spots that are quantified over the 3 to 5 day incubation and are used as spoilage and hygienic indicators by food manufacturers. The technology of the Peel Plate YM test is a dried medium in a shallow 47mm plate that automatically diffuses a liquid sample when added to the plate, and, like conventional plates, allows for morphology discerning and picking of cultured organisms for further identification. Simple procedure, convenient stackable design and a formulation resistant to sample pH effects, are all advantages the food industry welcomes.
The novaLUM II ATP Detection System is a palm sized luminometer that offers superior science for advanced sanitation control. It utilizes a technologically advanced photomultiplier tube (PMT) that amplifies ATP (adenosine triphosphate) allowing detection of lower levels of microbial and organic contamination. Advanced Sensitivity through chemistry and physics helps food plants establish a higher level of hygienic control, reducing microbial challenges and improving product shelf life.
Wireless Connectivity - send pass/fail graphing of swab location reports via email from novaLUM II instrument
Cost Effective Speed - 5 seconds to results reduces production downtime and optimizes sanitation verification
Audit Compliant - meet internal and 3rd party sanitation audits with documented swab results and re-test tracking for corrective action

GIPSA’s vomitoxin (DON) testing program for feed and grain to include Charm’s ROSA DONQ-FAST5 Quantitative Test. This 5 minute lateral flow test is approved for 27 Commodities.
Lawrence, MA, June 26, 2015 –– Charm Sciences, Inc. is pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) awarded a five year contract to Charm Sciences to monitor Deoxynivalenol(DON), commonly referred to as vomitoxinin feed and grains utilizing Charm’s ROSA DONQ-FAST5 Test. This 5 minute quantitative test extracts DON from samples using water.
“We are very happy to be awarded this contract to support GIPSA’s vomitoxin testing program,” said Mark Tess, PhD, Mycotoxin Product Manager at Charm Sciences. “The DONQ-FAST5 test is GIPSA approved for 12 commodities and Charm-validated for an additional 15 commodities. In addition to the DONQ-FAST5 test, last month GIPSA awarded us a five year contract to monitor aflatoxin. It has been an exciting spring for us.”
GIPSA offers quantitative aflatoxin and DON testing services nationwide (US) for exported and domestic grains. In May, Charm Sciences received a GIPSA contract for its ROSA WET-S5 Aflatoxin Quantitative Test (water-based) and ROSA FAST Aflatoxin Quantitative Test (solvent-based) to be used in GIPSA’s aflatoxin testing program.
